The Israeli military and the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service have confirmed the death of Hamas military chief in the Gaza Strip, Iss al-Did al-Haddad, in an Israeli airstrike the day before. Al-Haddad was named in a statement as one of the architects of the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. In the attack, Hamas terrorists and other Islamists killed around 1,200 people in Israel and abducted more than 250 to the Gaza Strip.
Al-Haddad became Hamas’ military chief in the Gaza Strip after the killing of Mohammed Sinwar. According to Israeli military sources, he was one of Hamas’ most senior commanders. It was said that he joined the terrorist organization in its founding phase. Israel has targeted the killings of a number of Hamas political and military leaders.
Hamas also confirmed al-Haddad’s death in a statement from the organization’s combat brigades. His family had previously reported that al-Haddad, his wife and one of his daughters were killed in the Israeli attack in a Gaza neighborhood on Friday. Al-Haddad was buried in Gaza in the afternoon. Outside the funeral procession, people carried portraits of the Hamas commander, whose body was draped in a Hamas flag. (sda/dpa)
