Israel attacks Beirut suburbs again

Despite a new attempt at a ceasefire in Lebanon, the Israeli military has warned residents of southern Lebanon not to return to their home villages. “The fighting in southern Lebanon continues”a speaker said in Arabic on X. Targets of Hezbollah, supported by Iran, would be attackedit said.

Residents should not travel south of the Sahrani River – about 40 kilometers north of the Israeli border. Anyone traveling south was putting their life in danger.

During the night, Israel and Lebanon once again agreed on a way to implement the ceasefire. Hezbollah has not yet commented on this.

Although a ceasefire had already been in place, it was practically ineffective as mutual attacks continued almost unabated. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in Lebanon because of the war that has been going on since the beginning of March. Many people there fear a continuation of the current ceasefire, which has failed to defuse the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. (sda/dpa)
