According to US Vice President JD Vance, Iran will again allow nuclear inspectors into the country as part of the framework agreement with the USA. “Yes, absolutely,” Vance told NBC News. One of the key points of the agreement is that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the USA will support Iran in destroying its highly enriched uranium. This was “very clearly stated” in the declaration of intent.
After weeks of negotiations, the USA and Iran agreed on a framework agreement to end the war on Monday night, which is to be signed in Switzerland on Friday. The text will be published after the ceremony, the broadcaster quoted Vance as saying. “There are still some technical details to be clarified that do not concern the text of the declaration of intent itself, but rather its implementation.” A start date for nuclear inspections could also be agreed on Friday.
Vance speaks of a change of heart among the Iranian leadership
In another interview with the US broadcaster CNN, the US Vice President said that the “coolest thing about the progress of the past few weeks” was that there were signs of a change of heart within Iran’s political and military leadership. Even among representatives of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard, Iran’s elite armed forces, voices can be heard saying, “We recognize that the way we have dealt with the United States for 47 years has been a mistake. Let’s try something different.” (sda/dpa)
