After the change of government, Hungary is expected to receive around ten billion euros (around 9.2 billion francs) from the EU reconstruction fund created in the Corona crisis. The country’s EU partners approved a corresponding reform and investment program in Brussels.

It will also reportedly strengthen the fight against corruption and increase transparency in public funds and public procurement.
Due to violations of the rule of law and fundamental EU values, tens of billions of euros in EU funds earmarked for Hungary were not paid out under the government of right-wing populist Viktor Orban. The new Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar and his government have now initiated a political change of course and are hoping for the funds to be released quickly.
According to EU information, of the ten billion euros that are now at stake, around 6.5 billion euros are grants and around 3.5 billion euros are loans. (dab/sda/dpa)
