Six days after the devastating double earthquake in Venezuela, a 3-year-old was rescued alive from the rubble, according to Jordanian rescue workers. The boy received first aid on site and was taken to a hospital, the Jordanian Civil Defense said on Tuesday. On June 24, two strong earthquakes shook Venezuela, and by Tuesday more than 1,900 victims had been rescued.
According to Parliament President Jorge Rodríguez, more than 6,400 people had been rescued alive by search teams by Tuesday. The actual number of survivors is probably closer to 20,000 if the thousands of people who were buried under rubble and “were able to get out either on their own or with the help of friends or family” are taken into account, Rodríguez said.
The two quakes occurred just 39 seconds apart west of the capital Caracas on Wednesday last week. The tremors had a magnitude of 7.2 and 7.5, and there were dozens of aftershocks. According to the latest official information, more than 10,500 people were injured. According to the UN, thousands of people are still missing.
