Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has denied the US the right to interfere in other people’s affairs. “The USA and the White House have no right to impose their will on others,” wrote the vice chairman of Russia’s National Security Council in a comment on Telegram on the 250th anniversary of US independence. “They should first get the chaos in their own house under control.”
The USA is now 250 years old. “Are they a role model or an ‘evil empire’,” Medvedev asks in the comment. In his opinion, they are neither one nor the other. “But most countries in the world agree on one point: America has no right to make decisions for others. Every state – whether small or large – is able to solve its own problems,” he claimed.
During his term in office from 2008 to 2012, Medvedev was seen in the Kremlin as a beacon of hope for the liberalization of Russia. Since the beginning of the war against Ukraine ordered by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin in 2022, he has distinguished himself as a hardliner. He repeatedly attracted attention with threats such as nuclear strikes against Western capitals. (sda/dpa)
