The “re:publica” book fair took place in the German capital Berlin from May 18th to 20th. The motto of this year’s edition was: “Never Gonna Give You Up” and was about not giving up, taking a stand and strengthening each other. Various panels and talks take place annually as part of the trade fair.
There was also a panel discussion on the topic of classism, i.e. the evaluation of people based on their social origins and situation. The discussion took place between the author and philosopher Hanno Sauer and the journalist and writer Mareice Kaiser.
They also discussed the topic of money on stage. Then the issue of advance payments came up. There are huge differences, as you can see in the video:

These are advance amounts
An advance is an amount that writers receive from the publisher before their book is published. The respective amount of money is an advance payment of the expected profit that the book should make.
The two writers had written books on a similar topic in the past. Hanno Sauer published the book “Class. The emergence of above and below”, a non-fiction book in which Sauter explains theories about the different social classes and their social signals.
Mareice Kaiser wrote the book “How much. What we do with money and what money does to us ». In it, the journalist describes how money is related to success, fame or our feelings. (nib)
