Authorities on the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia since 2014, have introduced limits on the distribution of gasoline following Ukrainian drone attacks on oil facilities.

Gasoline of the AI-95 brand – equivalent to Super in Europe – will be given primarily to public and social transport, the Moscow-appointed governor of the region, Sergei Aksyonov, said on Telegram. Ordinary citizens could only fill up with fuel with a purchase certificate – then without any quantity limits. For the AI-92 (Normal) brand, an upper limit of 20 liters applies.
“Refueling in canisters is prohibited,” Aksyonov also wrote. This is apparently intended to prevent hamsters. According to him, the restrictions will initially apply for a period of 30 days. Meanwhile, numerous videos of long queues in front of gas stations in Crimea are circulating on the Internet.
Since the beginning of the war against Ukraine ordered by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, Crimea has served as a supply base for Russian troops attacking in the south of Ukraine. As a result, the peninsula has increasingly become the target of Ukrainian drone and missile attacks. Oil facilities in particular are increasingly coming under fire. The refinery in the city of Feodosia has been burning for two days. Kiev’s goal is to make it more difficult to supply the occupying troops. (dab/sda/dpa)
