Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj thanked Guy Parmelin on Monday evening for Switzerland’s support for Ukraine. He particularly emphasized “his willingness to bring peace closer.”as he wrote in a post on the social network X on Tuesday night.

The Federal President received his Ukrainian counterpart at Geneva airport on Monday evening, who was on his way to the G7 summit in Evian, France. According to Bern, the agenda of this bilateral meeting included Switzerland’s mediation efforts in the conflict between Kiev and Moscow, the reconstruction of Ukraine and the free trade agreement between Switzerland and Ukraine.

In his contribution, written in English, Zelensky pointed out that that the talks also concerned the partners’ sanctions measures, which could force Russia to sit down at the negotiating table. He also informed Parmelin about Russia’s ongoing attacks and the need to strengthen air defense.

«We also talked about cooperation in the energy sector. Switzerland has helped us get through this winter and we count on further support,” he wrote, concluding with the words: “Thank you, Switzerland!”

For his part, the Federal President announced on social networks that he had “reaffirmed Switzerland’s will to host high-level meetings” and “offered our good offices”.
