France is banning alcohol consumption in public during the nationwide music festival “Fête de la Musique” in particularly affected regions due to an extreme heat wave.
The ban will apply on June 21 in all departments for which the highest heat warning level will be declared from Sunday afternoon, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s office announced on Saturday after a crisis meeting. The local prefects would issue appropriate regulations for public spaces. In addition, no alcohol will be served at any state-organized events.
The weather service Meteo France has issued a “red” heat warning for Sunday in 35 departments, including the capital Paris.
