The Nordic country currently has a ban on the production, storage, import and transport of nuclear weapons by land, sea and air. “Such a total ban is quite unusual among NATO member states,” said Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen. Finland joined the defense alliance in April 2023 in response to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.
Law could allow transport through Finnish territory
The Finnish parties have been discussing relaxing the rules for some time. The main consideration is whether Finland should allow the transport of nuclear weapons from other NATO states through its territory. The USA, France and Great Britain all have nuclear weapons. (dab/sda/dpa)
