The fighting along the fronts in southeastern Ukraine continues with undiminished intensity. In its evening situation report, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces spoke of a total of 219 armed clashes on various sectors of the front. The focus of the fighting was near Pokrovsk in the Donbass industrial region, where, according to the generals in Kiev, the Russian armed forces carried out over 40 attacks against Ukrainian positions.
Meanwhile, Russia also continued its attacks against civilian targets in Ukraine. Six people were injured in a rocket attack on the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa, according to regional military administrator Oleh Kiper. Explosions following Russian attacks were also reported in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv without further details.
Russia has been waging an offensive war against Ukraine for over four years. So far, Russian armed forces have occupied almost a fifth of the neighboring country’s territory. There has been little movement on the fronts for months, and Russia has had little success with high personnel losses. Recently, Russian armed forces have increased their attacks against civilian targets in Ukrainian cities. (sda/dpa)
