An F-16 fighter jet shot down another drone in national airspace on Saturday, according to the Romanian Defense Ministry. The incident occurred in an uninhabited area near the border with Ukraine, the ministry said. This was the second time the NATO country shot down a drone in two days, after Romanian airspace had been violated several times.

On Friday, an F-16 fighter jet shot down a drone near the village of Padina in Buzau district, over uninhabited areas. According to Romanian investigators, she came from Russia.
Already In May, a Russian drone carrying explosives crashed in the city of Galati. A fire broke out on the roof of an apartment block and two people were injured. At the beginning of June, a misguided Ukrainian maritime drone exploded in Romania’s largest port, Constanta.
Romania has a border of around 600 kilometers with Ukraine, which is attacked by Russia. In the past, several dozen Russian drones had entered Romanian airspace. In order to be able to shoot them down, Bucharest only created the legal basis last year. There is also concern that debris from downed aircraft could endanger the population on the ground.
