Epstein documents as exhibits: The approximately 3.5 million documents that the US Department of Justice published on the Epstein case can currently be viewed in New York – bound to 3,437 books. The so-called “Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Reading Room” was organized by a non-profit organization that, according to its own statements, wants to make clear the extent of the Epstein scandal and draw attention to the suffering of the victims.
The exhibition can be viewed free of charge for around two weeks with advance notice; many appointments were immediately booked out. However, you are not allowed to read or leaf through the books – according to the organizers, in order to protect the victims, whose identities were not sufficiently obscured in the documents by the US Department of Justice.
«Unforgivable. Unforgettable.”
In addition to the many shelves full of books, there is an exhibition on the relationship between Jeffrey Epstein and US President Donald Trump in the rooms in the south of Manhattan, as well as a room where visitors can write down their thoughts. “Believe the survivors,” it says, for example – and: “Unforgivable. Unforgettable.”
The multimillionaire Epstein had run an abuse ring for years, to which numerous young women and minors fell victim. There are said to have been many influential people among his clients.
Almost 20 years ago, allegations first came to court and Epstein pleaded guilty to certain counts. Years later, the case was reopened and the multimillionaire was arrested again. Even before a possible further verdict could be made, the financier died in his prison cell on August 10, 2019 at the age of 66. The autopsy report listed suicide as the cause of death. (sda/dpa)
