According to preliminary investigation results by the EU Commission, TikTok endangers children and young people through protection standards that are too low, as the Commission announced on Friday. The Brussels authority criticizes, among other things, the fact that strangers can see the public user accounts of minors and contact the young users with abusive intentions.
If the results of the investigation are confirmed and TikTok does not want to make any changes, the platform could face a fine.
At the same time, there is a debate about stricter age limits for certain social networks or other digital offerings. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently announced that she would make a proposal on how the EU should proceed after the summer. (sda/awp/dpa)
