Jeffrey Epstein never had to answer for the serious sex crimes he was accused of. However, he experienced consequences at least on one digital platform: the online gaming service Xbox Live.
Newly published documents show that Microsoft permanently blocked the US financier’s account in December 2013. In an email to Epstein’s private address, the company justified the move with “harassment, threats and/or abuse of other players.” According to Microsoft, these were repeated and serious violations, including verbal abuse, aggressive insults and threats towards other users, presumably during online games such as Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto.
Epstein was 60 years old at the time of the ban. He died in a New York prison in 2019, where he was awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors. The Xbox Live ban is one of many details from millions of pages of newly published files that are currently providing renewed insight into the behavior and environment of the former investment banker.
