The legal dispute revolves around the use of a photo of the singer on the packaging of television sets. The industry newspaper “Variety” published the lawsuit filed in California online. Dua Lipa accuses the company of using a photo of her, taken backstage at a festival in 2024, for advertising purposes without her consent and without appropriate compensation. Samsung did not initially respond to dpa’s request for comment.

According to the lawsuit, the pop star had already asked the company to remove the image last year, but Samsung responded to her warning in a “dismissive and indifferent” manner and continued to use it. In the legal document, Dua Lipa cites, among other things, statements from customers who wrote on the X platform that the singer’s photo on the box enticed them to buy the television.
The Grammy winner, known for songs like “Houdini” and “Dance The Night,” claims that the company exploited her brand identity. In addition to the claim for damages of 15 million dollars, the singer insists that the photo be used immediately. (sda/dpa)
