US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer sees positive developments regarding trade relations between Switzerland and the United States. However, he did not want to commit to a definitive trade agreement.

Greer told Bloomberg TV on Thursday that there had been concerns about the trade deficit with Switzerland for a long time. However, in the last six months there has been a trade surplus in goods trade. “This is a positive development.”
Greer also referred to Swiss investments in the USA. He also referred – without mentioning the name of the company – to an upcoming visit to a Stadler Rail location in the state of Utah. “Switzerland is doing a lot of what it has to do.” Since negotiations are still ongoing, he cannot guarantee anything at the moment.
The Federal Council’s aim is to convert the 15 percent tariff rate that has been in effect since the conclusion of a joint declaration of intent into a definitive agreement. Recently, however, the US government threatened Switzerland and other countries with additional tariffs – under the pretext that the affected countries were not doing enough to combat the import of products that were manufactured using forced labor.
