Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has confirmed that her Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will meet with his US counterpart Marco Rubio next week. Frederiksen did not give a place or an exact time for the meeting in the conflict over Greenland during a party conference at midday. “We are at a crossroads,” said the head of government, according to the Ritzau news agency.

US President Donald Trump and his government have repeatedly reiterated in recent days that they want to take over Greenland. The government in Washington did not rule out military deployment for this purpose; Trump justified this with security interests and a suspected threat from China and Russia in the region.
Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and therefore also of NATO. If you turn your back on NATO cooperation by threatening an ally, “then everything stops,” said Frederiksen. But she also emphasized that the USA is the most important ally. (hkl/sda/dpa)
