A good two months before the cinema release, star director Christopher Nolan (55) is giving a foretaste of his next cinema spectacle. The more than two-minute trailer for “The Odyssey” features visually stunning action and star performances from Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron.
A long-bearded Matt Damon plays the hero from the ancient poem of Homer. The “Odyssey” tells of the adventurous journey home of King Odysseus of Ithaca from the Trojan War, during which he defies numerous dangers and at the end of which he arrives home with his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway). “No one stands between me and my home, not even the gods,” Odysseus declares resolutely in a teaser scene.
Tom Holland plays Telemachus’ son, Robert Pattinson shines as the power-hungry villain Antinous. Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Mia Goth, John Leguizamo and Benny Safdie also star. In addition to dark battle scenes and spectacular voyages on the high seas, the trailer also shows the legendary wooden horse of Troy, a giant Cyclops and Odysseus’ faithful dog Argos.
Oscar winner Nolan (“Oppenheimer”) filmed in many locations around the world. The film was filmed using IMAX technology, which enables particularly high resolution. “The Odyssey” will be released in German cinemas on July 16th. (sda/dpa)
