The Strait of Hormuz is an important transit route for global shipping. The oil-producing countries in the Middle East in particular rely on being able to export their oil by sea. Not least because of this, both Iran and the USA claim to have sovereignty over the strait.
Just this week, US President Donald Trump announced that he would charge a fee for using the road; However, he has now rejected this idea.
