The US President is obviously demented – and a threat to world peace.

More and more psychiatrists and other experts are stating the obvious: Donald Trump is demented, and not only that, he suffers from a particularly dangerous variant of age-related confusion, frontal lobe dementia. We don’t need these experts at all. Anyone with eyes in their head can see that the US President is disintegrating physically and mentally. He can no longer walk straight, he has to cover his hands with make-up, he keeps falling asleep in public, and his confused speech becomes more and more confused.
The fact that we are talking about the most powerful man in the world makes the matter frightening, especially since those around him cannot stop him: his chief of staff Susie Wiles has and does not want to have any influence on his decisions. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is a stupid sycophant, as is Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance are characterless opportunists.

Stephen Miller, the man who is said to have the greatest influence on the president, is – sorry, there is no other way to put it – a dangerous fascist, Trump’s Joseph Goebbels, so to speak.
Seen in this light, it is not surprising what is currently happening around Greenland. Trump wants the island to be annexed to the USA, if necessary by military means. He wants it because he can, or as Stephen Miller recently put it in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper: “We live in a world where you can discuss nice international customs for as long as you want. But the real world is ruled by power and violence.”
The US President meanwhile claims that the US needs Greenland for national security reasons. “It’s strategic,” said Trump. “It is currently surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships.”
This is nonsense. Militarily, the USA can already do whatever it wants in Greenland. The NATO partner Denmark, to which the island belongs, is not putting any obstacles in the way of the Americans. The Americans can also easily purchase the mineral resources that are still hidden under the ice, should they one day be exploited.

No, Trump wants Greenland for one reason: He wants to go down in history and catch up with Thomas Jefferson. He bought Louisiana from Napoleon in 1803, thereby doubling the size of the USA in one fell swoop.
Greenland is also easy prey. The USA cannot be prevented militarily from annexing the island. Politically, however, the price is very high. Mette Frederiksen, the Danish Prime Minister, speaks plainly: “If the United States attacks another NATO member militarily, then everything is over.”
The military action against Nicolás Maduro is also increasingly proving to be the president’s ego project. Trump emphasizes again and again that he is concerned with oil. He never speaks of democracy and is even prepared to work with the former cabinet of the dictator of Venezuela.
Even with the oil it will probably be difficult. The Americans have confiscated Venezuelan oil worth around three billion dollars, and Trump wants to personally decide what to do with the money from the sale of this oil.
But it’s nothing more than a drop in a bucket. Yes, it shows that Trump not only thinks like a mafia boss, but also acts like one. “This is pure imperialism for which there is no justification,” explains Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a professor at Yale Business School, in the “Financial Times.” “There is no reason for it at all. There is currently far too much oil on the market.”

Even in the long term, things are complex. Although Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world, this oil is difficult to extract and difficult to refine. Trump also untruthfully claimed that the American oil multinationals would bring the ailing oil fields in Venezuela back into shape. At best, Venezuela is potentially an oil bonanza. Initially, investments in the tens of billions are necessary, and even then this investment will only be worthwhile when the oil price is at least $80 per barrel. It’s currently under $60 a barrel.
In addition, the oil multinationals only intervene when they are certain that their investments are protected. There can be no question of that. Furthermore, it is not in the interest of the American oil industry to create a flood of oil. Fracking is only worthwhile if the black gold is not too cheap.
Five years ago, rioters tried to storm the Capitol and prevent the legitimate election of Joe Biden. The Trump administration is not only preventing a memorial plaque from being erected for the police officers who prevented the operation. In true Orwellian Newspeak fashion, this event is reinterpreted on the official White House website. Because they certified Trump’s election defeat, the Democrats are called the “real insurgents.” The chaotic people, on the other hand, were “punished too harshly in a vicious manner” and were “hostages for a vengeful regime”.

All of this shows: The demented president is in the process of transforming the USA from a legal state into a mafia state. Trump himself is only interested in his glorification, in his ballroom, in his triumphal arch or in being able to attach his name to as many buildings as possible.
Can this disinhibited man still be stopped? The USA is not lost yet, because:
- Trump is at a poll low. No president has ever been as unpopular as he was after just one year in office. With his policies, for example when it comes to health insurance premiums, he frustrates even his own voters.
- The Democrats have found their feet and won all of last year’s elections.
- The courts are increasingly ruling against the president. Even the conservative-dominated Supreme Court has banned him from sending National Guard soldiers to Chicago. There is also a real possibility that he will take Trump’s tariffs.
- The “No Kings” protest movement is growing and already has more members than the MAGA crowd.
Perhaps the most potent remedy against Trump’s demented fantasies of omnipotence is shame. It is well known that Americans see their country as a “shining city on a hill”. They see themselves as champions for democracy, the rule of law and human dignity. Many conservatives are also starting to feel ashamed about this. After all, they don’t want to appear as members of a mafia organization – or even as open fascists like Stephen Miller.
