A few days ago, a Russian rocket attack blew up ammunition depots near Kiev – now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to punish the officials responsible. It was clearly forbidden to set up depots in the city of Vyshneve, “but all these regulations were ignored,” Zelenskyj complained in his evening video message. There are enough places in Ukraine to set up such depots at a safe distance from residential buildings.
According to Zelensky, heads of two state-owned companies were responsible for the violation of safety regulations. She and other managers are being investigated.
The Russian military launched a massive attack on Ukraine with drones, rockets and cruise missiles on the night of July 6th. In addition to Kyiv, the target was the city of Vyshneve, immediately west of the Ukrainian capital. According to authorities, nine people were killed and dozens were injured in Vyshneve as a result of the impact and subsequent explosions. Because of the ongoing risk of explosions, the authorities had to evacuate hundreds of residents. The emergency services fought the flames for days. (sda/dpa)
