Journalists from the news portal “The Kyiv Independent” reported loud explosions as rockets hit the city of over a million people in several volleys. Damage to commercial and residential buildings was reported in several parts of the city, Tkachenko wrote. Emergency services rescued a child from the rubble of a damaged apartment building. Both the child and his mother would be treated. The extent of the damage and the number of victims remained unclear as the attacks continued into the early morning.
Attacks also on other regions of Ukraine
Air alerts were also raised in other regions of the country. In Dnipro, Ukraine’s fourth-largest city, a Russian rocket attack killed at least two people and injured 27 others, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Olexander Hansha, wrote on Telegram. Five of the injured are in mortal danger. Several houses in residential areas burned. A few days ago, at least five people were killed in a rocket attack on the industrial city.
Explosions were also reported in the Ukrainian port city of Odessa during the night, as Governor Oleh Kiper wrote on Telegram. At least one person was killed and six others were injured when a Russian drone hit an apartment block that evening.
For more than four years, Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion. Since the beginning of the war, Russia has been systematically shelling its neighbor’s hinterland, repeatedly hitting civilian objects. (dab/sda/dpa)
