According to authorities, three people died in an accident at a leather factory and fur tannery in the small town of Runkel in the German state of Hesse on Thursday. Two other people were seriously injured and taken to hospitals.
Carbon dioxide (CO2), among other things, is currently being considered as a possible cause. There is no information yet on the exact cause of the accident.
According to initial information, there is a possibility that the affected people climbed into a pit one after the other and had an accident there, according to the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.
Since various chemicals are used in the affected company, the emergency services who were in direct contact with the injured people were decontaminated and seen by a doctor as a precaution. According to the current status, around 45 to 50 emergency services are affected by this. (sda/apa/dpa)
