A police officer has been killed in a shooting incident in Montreal, Canada. “It is with great regret that we confirm the death of one of our police officers in the line of duty,” the police wrote on the X platform. The police had previously warned of an “armed and dangerous suspect” and asked people to avoid an area in the Côte-des-Neige district. A “neutralized” suspect and two injured police officers were later reported.
Our thoughts are with our police family in Montreal.
Such devastating news to learn of another police officer killed in the line of duty.
There are no words to express our grief at the loss of another brave and courageous police officer. #HeroesinLife https://t.co/cX96qNBWHZ

The Jewish rescue service Zaka said the attack occurred near a Chabad center. It could be an attack, they said. Canadian police did not initially confirm this. Founded in the late 18th century, the Chabad-Lubavitch movement initially spread in Russia and then spread to neighboring countries. Its goal is to bring Jews closer to their religion and traditions. According to its own information, the organization has more than 5,000 institutions in more than 100 countries worldwide. (sda/dpa)
