“Unfortunately, according to current calculations, we have to assume an employment loss of 225,000 jobs by 2035, i.e. around 35,000 jobs more than previously assumed,” said VDA President Hildegard Müller to the Editorial Network Germany (RND).

Müller said that 100,000 of these jobs had already been lost between 2019 and 2025. According to the VDA, 190,000 jobs were originally predicted to be cut in the period from 2019 to 2035. “The supplier companies are particularly affected because many jobs will be lost on the path from combustion engines to electromobility, especially in the supplier industry,” explained the VDA boss.
Müller also cited “a serious and ongoing location crisis” in Germany and Europe as the cause of the negative development. “And the conditions are rapidly deteriorating. High taxes and duties, expensive energy, high wage costs, excessive bureaucracy – the list of challenges goes on,” she said. (sda/dpa)
