According to regional authorities, three people were injured in Ukrainian drone attacks in the Russian city of Cheboksary on the Volga.
One of the injured was taken to hospital, the Ministry of Health of the Chuvashia Republic said. The drones were therefore part of a second wave of attacks. According to reports from the internet portal “Astra”, in a first attack, a cruise missile hit the “WNIIIR Progress” arms factory, where navigation modules for drones, cruise missiles and rockets are manufactured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the use of Flamingo cruise missiles. “Among other things, objects of the military-industrial complex in Cheboksary” were shot at, he said on social networks. According to him, the rockets traveled a distance of over 1,500 kilometers.

Cheboksary is about 1,000 kilometers from the front. In total, missile alerts were declared in 18 Russian regions, including for the first time in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug in the Asian part of Russia. Ukraine has been producing Flamingo cruise missiles since last year, which are said to have a range of up to 3,000 kilometers. So far, however, they have only been used a few times.
Large refinery in northern Russia on fire
Meanwhile, in northern Russia, the Kirischinefteorgsintes refinery was once again attacked. The governor of the Leningrad region surrounding the megacity of St. Petersburg, Alexander Drozdenko, confirmed a fire in the industrial area of the city of Kirishi. The fire is now under control, he wrote on Telegram. No people were harmed. The refinery in Kirishi is the largest in northern Russia and is therefore not the first time the target of Ukrainian attacks. The Russian authorities last reported an attack on the oil processing plant on March 26th.
The Russian Defense Ministry said 289 Ukrainian drones were intercepted during the night.
Ukraine has been resisting the Russian invasion for more than four years. In addition to military facilities and arms factories, it is also increasingly attacking its neighbor’s oil industry. This is intended to make it more difficult for the Russian military to supply fuel and for the Kremlin to finance wars. (sda/dpa)
