The perpetrator was brought to the ground and arrested by the police, as a reporter from the German Press Agency (dpa) observed on site. A police spokesman said the man was being questioned about his identity and motive.
In an initial report, the police spoke of a tomato being thrown, but they later changed their information and then only spoke of a red liquid. Pahlavi’s team said that tomato sauce had been injected. The politician was smeared on his neck and shoulder.
