A free holiday including return flights, accommodation and a ten-day program is the absolute dream for many people. A popular airline is currently promising exactly that to the winner of a new competition. But this is not about proving a talent, but rather about the absence of it.
Airline makes Instagram call for new competition
Icelandair is currently looking for the world’s worst photographers. With a large-scale campaign, Iceland’s national airline wants to prove that even the worst photographer can take great photos of the island. “Is that you?” asks the airline on its website.
The profit is actually impressive. Whoever is chosen as the worst photographer will receive a pre-planned 10-day trip to Iceland – including return flights and accommodation. In addition to the travel costs, there will be compensation of $50,000. The sum is intended to compensate the winning person for photographs, content and participation.
The photographs produced will also be part of a global campaign by the airline. “So there is also a chance for a certain level of fame,” they say.
If you want to take part, you have to go to the website answer six questions. The airline also recommends uploading a short video in which the person applying reports the worst photo fail.
Icelandair provides clear criteria for incompetent photographers
If you think you have no talent at all, you can check this using the requirements listed. Applicants must not have a professional background in photography or have a particular interest in delving into it more intensively.
Instead, people usually just use a cell phone or a simple camera without thinking much about it. So far, the photos have largely led to disappointment among photographers with no talent.
According to the airline, the focus is more on the joy of traveling and dealing with other people. Anyone applying should have no problem showing themselves in photos or videos. There should also be a willingness to achieve international attention with your “own, unique style”.
Holidaymakers must be at least 21 years old
Icelandair explains additional criteria that should be met on the website. We are looking for a person who can participate in outdoor physical activities and adventures and is comfortable hiking.
A valid passport, a clean criminal record and a minimum age of 21 are required. There must also be the possibility of traveling for up to ten days in June 2026. In addition, participants must be able to enter Iceland, the United Kingdom and the USA without restrictions. You can apply until April 30, 2026.
The announcement hits a nerve on Instagram. “Based on every photo my husband has ever taken of me, I think he would be perfect for this,” someone wrote here.
