A tree has fallen in a forest near Flensburg. Several people died, said a fire department spokesman.

At least three people died in a forest near Flensburg on Easter Sunday. Due to strong gusts of wind, a tree about 30 meters high fell on a group of people, the police reported. Other people were injured.
A fire department spokesman confirmed to t-online that people had died after an accident in the Satrupholm forest. The “Bild” newspaper first reported.
According to police, the tree fell around 11 a.m. At that time, around 50 residents and carers from a nearby residential facility were in the forest looking for Easter eggs.
Two young women and a small child die
Four people were trapped under the tree. A 16-year-old teenager and a 21-year-old woman died at the scene of the accident. The 21-year-old’s ten-month-old daughter was flown by rescue helicopter to a hospital in Kiel with life-threatening injuries, where the child later died.
Another 18-year-old woman was flown to a hospital in Heide with serious injuries. Other people suffered minor injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, colorful Easter eggs were distributed around the scene of the accident.
It was said that the tree probably fell over during the search for Easter eggs. Official warnings of squalls will apply in northern Germany on Sunday. Warning level 2 of 4 has been declared. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), gusts in Flensburg can reach speeds of between 55 and 75 km/h, and in exposed locations and near showers they can reach speeds of 90 km/h.

The accident occurred in Satrupholm, a district of the Mittelangeln municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district.
