“It developed with clinical stability and improvement in kidney function, but with increased inflammation levels in the blood again,” the news portal “G1” quoted from the medical bulletin of the Hospital DF Star in the capital Brasília. Doctors have therefore expanded antibiotic treatment. A date for a discharge was not initially given.

The former president, who is serving a prison sentence of more than 27 years for a coup attempt, was admitted on Friday after suffering from nausea, high fever and chills during the night. Examinations revealed bacterial bronchopneumonia, a form of pneumonia.
His son, the senator and likely presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, made serious allegations. “You are deliberately putting Bolsonaro’s life at risk. There is no longer any reason why the law should not be applied and Bolsonaro should be placed under humanitarian house arrest,” he wrote on Platform X.
Bolsonaro’s defense attorneys had previously repeatedly tried to have his detention converted into house arrest because of his health. However, the Supreme Court has so far rejected such applications. (sda/dpa)
