The meeting was about promising projects to restore Russian-American relations and the situation on the global energy markets, he wrote on Telegram that morning. Many countries, especially the United States, are beginning to understand the key role that Russian oil and gas plays in the stability of the global economy and how ineffective and destructive sanctions against Russia are, he said.
Steve Witkoff, special envoy to US President Donald Trump, confirmed the meeting in Florida on Wednesday. “The teams discussed a variety of topics and agreed to stay in touch,” he wrote on the X platform on Thursday night.
Dmitriyev is Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin’s special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries and also plays an important role in the negotiations to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which has been ongoing for more than four years. From Moscow’s perspective, it should primarily influence Washington’s position and also improve economic relations. (dab/sda/dpa)
