The body of a baby disappeared from a hospital in Böblingen on Wednesday afternoon and reappeared in a laundry on Thursday. A police spokesman confirmed this to t-online. The “Schwäbische Zeitung” had previously reported.
According to police, the baby was born prematurely and died shortly after birth. It weighed less than a kilogram.
As the “Schwäbische Zeitung” writes, the body was found in several pieces in the laundry. A spokesman for the Ludwigsburg police did not confirm this information.
Clinic “sincerely” regrets the incident
The newborn’s body was found in the Karlsruhe police area. As the spokesman explained, cadaver dogs were used in the search operation.
According to a spokesman, the police currently assume that the dead newborn was overlooked in a sheet by laundry employees. This scenario was quickly followed during the investigation, and further investigations into the case are ongoing. There is a suspicion of disturbing the peace of the dead.
The Klinikverbund Südwest, which runs the hospital, was deeply affected by the incident. In a statement, the company said: “We are sincerely sorry that the parents and relatives have to go through this during this already painful time.” The incident should also be dealt with internally.
The clinic in Böblingen is located southwest of Stuttgart. Together with another location in neighboring Sindelfingen, it forms a hospital. The children’s clinic and the maternity clinic are located in Böblingen.
