According to Reza Pahlavi, renewed negotiations between the USA and the Iranian government are endangering the lives of many Iranians without offering a serious chance of resolving the problems. “With every day that passes, more Iranians die in Iran,” said the son of the Shah of Persia, who was expelled in 1979, to journalists on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. Only a “quick intervention” will help save more lives and help security in the region. The goal must be to quickly disempower the government in Tehran.

Pahlavi: “Regime is trying to buy time”
«The regime has always tried to buy time and I don’t see any quick results or any results at all for the negotiations. The problem is time,” emphasized Pahlavi. He once again appealed to US President Donald Trump to put his words to the Iranian people into action: “They have deployed a massive fleet and clearly signaled that the time of brutality is coming to an end.” The Iranian people have heard Trump’s words and trust him. Trump could thus “immortalize himself as one of the greatest heroes in the world.”
According to Pahlavi, the protests in Iran continued despite the high risk to the people: “People are still resisting. “Unfortunately, the regime continues its arrest campaign,” he said. But in order for people to be able to take to the streets again in large numbers, as they did at the end of December and beginning of January, they needed support from abroad.
New negotiations have begun in Oman’s capital Muscat
Trump had previously stated that he considered a change of power in Iran to be desirable: “That seems to be the best thing that could happen.” At the same time, he also stated that Iran could avoid a US attack with a “real deal”. So far, Iran has talked a lot but done nothing, Trump said. Washington and Tehran had already negotiated Iran’s nuclear program last year, but the talks stalled. New negotiations began in Oman’s capital Muscat last week. (hkl/sda/dpa)
