Videos show the dramatic extent of the Atlantic depression “Marta”: flooded streets, destroyed infrastructure and rivers overflowing their banks characterize the situation.
On Saturday the storm hit Portugal and Spain with full force. A Portuguese rescue worker drowned in a raging river, as the civil protection authority confirmed.
In parts of Andalusia and northwest Spain, the second highest warning level was orange, and thousands of emergency services are in constant use.
After the heavy one Storm “Leonardo” “Marta” is the next storm in the shortest possible time.
The ongoing series of storms is hitting a region that has been extremely stressed by climate change for years, with heat waves and heavy rain.
