The French financial prosecutor’s office is investigating former culture minister Jack Lang and his daughter Caroline. According to the authorities, it is suspected of money laundering in connection with serious tax fraud. The investigation began on Saturday.
According to media reports, the proceedings were triggered by documents recently published by the US Department of Justice, which are said to indicate years of exchange and financial connections between Lang and the convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
An evaluation by the news agency Reuters Lang is mentioned more than 600 times in the documents. The publication of the files has increased pressure on numerous international figures who are said to have contacts with Epstein. Epstein committed suicide in custody in 2019.
Lang, who currently heads the “Institut du monde Arabe” in Paris, was summoned to the French Foreign Ministry on Sunday. He rejected the allegations.
