Denmark’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen calls on NATO to do more in the Arctic. The Greenland Minister responsible for foreign policy, Vivian Motzfeldt, and he wanted to discuss this with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
This emerges from a statement from the Danish Ministry of Defense. Accordingly, the talks are scheduled to take place on Monday at NATO headquarters in Brussels against the backdrop of the escalating dispute over Greenland between the Europeans and the USA.
After Denmark and Greenland, together with some allies, decided to increase the military presence in the Arctic and the North Atlantic, the countries received “broad support” for “NATO to do more in the Arctic,” Lund Poulsen said in the statement.
Motzfeldt said: “Greenland is in an extraordinary situation that is attracting the attention of the whole world. The situation requires us to strengthen cooperation on defense and security issues in the Arctic within NATO circles.” (sda/dpa)
