Because of the violent storm over northern France, the French electricity company EDF shut down the Flamanville nuclear power plant on the English Channel on Friday night.

The personnel absolutely necessary for the operation of the power plant are located in the nuclear power plant. The remaining employees were asked not to come to the power plant and to work from home, as EDF announced. In accordance with the procedure for storms, the power plant’s output was initially reduced.
During the night, the storm on the English Channel reached a speed of 213 kilometers per hour at one point. Trees fell and roofs were torn down and there were significant traffic delays. According to preliminary results, no one was seriously injured. (dab/sda/dpa)
