French right-wing populist and three-time presidential candidate Marine Le Pen will attend the funeral of the late film icon Brigitte Bardot next week. This was announced on Tuesday by a member of the team of the parliamentary group leader of the Rassemblement National (RN). French President Emmanuel Macron, who described Bardot as a “legend” on Sunday, will not be at the funeral, it was said from the Elysée Palace.

Bardot died early Sunday morning at the age of 91 at her estate in southern France. Her funeral will take place on January 7th in Saint-Tropez, southern France. According to Bardot’s foundation, a memorial service will take place beforehand in a church in Saint-Tropez.
In her last book, the actress herself wanted a simple grave on her property – now, according to the port city of Saint-Tropez, the French film icon will be buried on January 7th in a cemetery right by the sea. Her parents are also buried in the cemetery.
Bardot on Le Pen: “The only woman who has balls”
The funeral service at the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church, a Saint-Tropez landmark, will be broadcast on screens in the harbor and on the central Place des Lices, the foundation announced on Monday. The funeral will then take place in private.
The former actress had drifted politically to the far right in recent years and received criticism for this. She railed against alleged “Islamization” or “foreign overpopulation” in France caused by Muslim immigrants. Bardot was fined several times for racist comments.
Bardot was already campaigning for the election of the right-wing populist Le Pen in 2012. “I like Marine Le Pen very much. She is the only woman (…) who has eggs,” explained Bardot.
