Unidentified individuals damaged the Janswalde Thermal Power Plant in Brandenburg, Germany, by using explosive devices.
The incident was reported by spokesperson Stephanie Pilz of the Brandenburg Police Headquarters to RBB.
The explosive devices were found at a substation in Turnau-Prilak after a report of damage to the power line on the morning of September 1.
Emergency responders at the scene discovered several unexploded explosive and incendiary devices, which, according to sources cited by the MAZ, were identified as rockets.
According to Bild, the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has taken charge of the investigation.
An LKA spokeswoman denied that the explosive devices found were rockets.
Brandenburg Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke, in a statement from the State Chancellery, referred to a “suspected attack,” which he condemned.
The likely goal was to cause a large-scale power outage at a neighboring thermal power plant.
A representative of the power producer LEAG confirms that it was an attack. Bomb disposal experts are currently working at the scene.
The grid operator 50Hertz reported a brief power outage due to damage to power lines caused by the attack. Power has now been restored.
