“Therefore, in my opinion, two important countries that are often talked about in connection with Iran are not involved,” wrote Trump – obviously referring to his war against Iran.
“If they did, it would be very bad for them – certainly not in their best interests.”
In the wake of the Iran War, US media have reported several times about possible support for Iran from China and Russia. The Wall Street Journal, for example, quoted US officials last week as saying that Iran’s ability to hit sensitive targets was fueling fears that Tehran would receive support from China or Russia in targeting.
In the early weeks of the war, several US media outlets reported that Russia was providing Iran with information about US forces and possible targets in the Middle East. Trump himself said in March that he thought it was possible that Putin was helping Iran in the war. When asked about this, he told Fox News in a radio interview: “I think he might help them a little bit, yes.” (sda/dpa)
