American R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to a minor charge in the British trial following an altercation in a nightclub.

The 37-year-old admitted the charge of threatening or using unlawful violence, known as “affray” in British criminal law, the PA news agency reported from the courtroom.

However, the charge of assault and two charges of possession of a weapon (a bottle) in a public place and attempted grievous bodily harm were dropped.
The sentence is to be announced on October 26th. The singer is still allowed to leave the country on bail.
The allegations in Great Britain had been in the air for some time. The background to the long-running criminal proceedings is an incident in the London nightclub Tape in the Mayfair district in February 2023. Brown had denied the more serious allegations.
Conviction for assaulting Rihanna
The alleged victim, a music producer, said Brown hit him over the head with the bottle and kicked and punched him while he was on the ground, according to a BBC report.
As part of his bail conditions, Brown had to provide a security deposit of five million pounds (the equivalent of 5.45 million francs). The Grammy award winner had his big breakthrough 20 years ago with the single “Run It!” done. Many more hits and successful albums followed.
Brown has previously been noticed for violent attacks. In 2009 he attacked his girlfriend at the time, the singer Rihanna, and was sentenced to probation and community service. (dab/sda/dpa)
