International law debate with “Markus Lanz”: Expert makes Putin comparison

At “Markus Lanz” three renowned international lawyers met. Positions diverged, particularly when it came to the Iran war and Israel’s actions in Gaza.

“In my view, this was an act that violated international law.” With this sentence, Heike Krieger made it clear right at the beginning how she assessed the attack by the USA and Israel on Iran. Preventive self-defense, double standards, reasons of state, arms deliveries – the central controversial issues of international politics were on the table that evening. Lanz invited three international law experts to discuss the question: Does international law ultimately protect the wrong people?

Krieger justified her assessment. It argued that the attack violated international law because the requirement of an imminent attack was not met. In addition, there were still negotiations in Geneva at the time of the attack. In their view, the “window of last resort” for a diplomatic solution was not yet closed.
