Antoinette Bower was seen on screen for decades – as a cat-like alien in “Star Trek”, as a woman at the end of the world in “The Twilight Zone”, as Jamie Lee Curtis’ mother in the horror film “Prom Night”. Bower’s friend Carlotta Glack has now confirmed the actress’s death to the US industry magazine “Hollywood Reporter”. Accordingly, she died on April 30th in a retirement home in the Eagle Rock district of Los Angeles.
Bower portrayed the extraterrestrial Sylvia in the 1967 “Star Trek” episode “The Haunted Castle in Space.” She was one of around 20 women who kissed Captain Kirk in the series. William Shatner, the Kirk actor, sent an email with his condolences after her death was announced, Glackin said. She also said that Bower continued to receive regular mail from “Star Trek” fans until her death. A memorial service for Bower is planned for Sept. 26 in Pasadena.

Bower also left his mark on the big screen. She appeared in several horror and action films as well as comedies in the 1970s and 1980s. From 1989 to 1992 she also had a recurring role in the Canadian television series “Neon Rider”, after which she no longer appeared in front of the camera.
Bower was born on September 30, 1932 in Baden-Baden to a German mother and an English father. She grew up in England. In the late 1940s she worked as a language supervisor and social advisor for the United Nations International Refugee Agency. In 1953 she moved to Canada to be with her family. In Toronto she worked at the Canadian broadcaster CBC. She settled in Los Angeles in the early 1960s.
Away from acting, Bower made a documentary about chuckwagon racing in Canada, a rodeo sport in which horses pull historic covered wagons. She also worked as a carpenter.
