According to official reports, a fire broke out in a refinery in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack. One person was also killed in the attack, Governor Venjamin Kondratiev said on Telegram. In addition to the refinery in the town of Slavyansk-na-Kubani, several houses, an electricity and a gas pipeline were damaged, he wrote.
Images and videos shared on social networks suggest a large fire. The plant is not particularly large, with a processing capacity of, according to various sources, four to five million tons of oil per year. Because of its location in the immediate vicinity of the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia, the Ukrainians have attacked and damaged the refinery several times.
Other Russian regions such as Yaroslavl and Ivanovo, northeast of Moscow, also reported drone attacks. The Russian military says it shot down 213 Ukrainian drones. This indicates another massive attack.
Ukraine takes the lead in drone warfare
Russian President Vladimir Putin gave the order to start the war against Ukraine in February 2022. In more than four years of war, the Russian military has destroyed cities in Ukraine, killed thousands of civilians and forced millions of Ukrainians to flee.
Kiev is also defending itself against the invasion with attacks on strategic targets such as military and armaments facilities or oil facilities in the Russian hinterland. The Ukrainians have increasingly gained the upper hand in drone warfare in recent months. As a result, a fuel deficit is now becoming increasingly noticeable in Russia. (sda/dpa)
