A gunman has killed at least 10 people and injured about two dozen others in Canada.

According to their own information, the police were informed at 1:20 p.m. local time (9:20 p.m. CET) of shots fired at a school in the community of Tumbler Ridge. Upon arrival, officers discovered six dead. Two injured people were taken to hospital by helicopter with life-threatening injuries. Another person died of their injuries on the way to the hospital.

The alleged perpetrator is also dead, said police in the western province of British Columbia. Two more dead people were found at a second location that was probably connected to the crime. Around 25 other people are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Initially nothing was known about the background to the crime. It was also not stated whether the dead were children or teachers.

According to the station, a search was underway for a “woman in a dress” in the afternoon. The town of Tumbler Ridge is located around 700 kilometers northeast of Vancouver as the crow flies. According to its own information, the community has around 2,700 residents.
