One of the occupants died when a helicopter crashed on Lake Maggiore in Italy. According to the fire department, three others were injured, some seriously.
According to initial findings, the helicopter took off from the grounds of a villa on the western bank of the Italian side of the lake. Shortly after taking off, it was reported that he encountered turbulence. The cause of the crash is still unclear.
Crash site in popular holiday region
The fatality is said to be a person aged around 60. Two of the injured were flown to the hospital in another helicopter. The authorities initially did not provide any further information about her identity.
The crash site is near the municipality of Lesa in the immediate vicinity of the lake. Lake Maggiore on the border with Switzerland is Italy’s second largest lake after Lake Garda. The area is a popular holiday region. (sda/dpa)
