In Norway, a 17-year-old is said to have planned a terrorist attack on a NATO base. This was reported by the Norwegian broadcaster NRK, citing the arrest warrant against the young person. The 17-year-old’s lawyer confirmed the arrest to the NTB news agency for planning a terrorist attack. His client denies the crime.
According to NRK, the young man had planned an attack on the NATO base in Stavanger in southwest Norway. He grew up in Norway and has a connection to the region. The station also reported that the 17-year-old had been radicalized and expressed sympathy for the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS). Accordingly, he is said to have once brought an IS flag to school.
A spokeswoman for the Norwegian news service PST told NTB that the boy was arrested because there was a risk he could hide or destroy evidence. The duration of the pre-trial detention was set at two weeks, said the 17-year-old’s lawyer. (sda/dpa)
