The British heir to the throne, Prince William (43) and his wife Princess Kate (44) are concerned about the Epstein scandal, in which the former British Prince Andrew is also involved.
“I can confirm that the Prince and Princess are deeply concerned about the ongoing revelations,” Kensington Palace said, according to several media reports. “Your thoughts continue to be with the victims.”
It is considered unusual for members of the royal family to comment on such events. So far, the British royal family has held back from making any statements.
The younger brother of Charles III. (77), whose commoner name is only Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, appeared prominently in the recently published documents from the Epstein files. The 65-year-old maintained a close friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, who ran an abuse ring for years that victimized girls and young women. Epstein died in custody in 2019.
Andrew always denied the allegations of being involved in the scheme and of being guilty of sexual abuse. Because of his connection to Epstein, he had to give up all honors and titles and finally had to move out of the luxurious Royal Lodge property on the grounds of Windsor Castle. According to British media, William was the driving force behind the royal crackdown. (sda/dpa)
